Have you ever wondered what your Interior Design style is? Do you shop at all different types of stores like World Market, Kirkland’s, Target, etc. decor and then feel confused as to why it seems like things just don’t “fit?” This can be for a number of reasons, such as not taking measurements or considering scale, but the biggest one is probably that you haven’t considered what your design style is.
Some of the more common design styles are Contemporary, Traditional, Transitional, Modern, Mid-Century Modern, Rustic, Farmhouse, Coastal, Industrial, and Bohemian.

If you look around your room right now, what do you see? Maybe a farmhouse coffee table, a piece of modern art, and a mid century modern couch? If you notice multiple different styles mixed together, we have our answer as to why you’re feeling like things don’t quite fit. This is an issue I see all the time with people who tend to shop items one at a time from all different stores. When you’re out at Kirkland’s and you fall in love with a gorgeous farmhouse coffee table that just happens to be 50% off, of course you’re going to snag it! The problem is, if the rest of your space isn’t farmhouse, it’s going to stick out like a sore thumb.
If you really want to find your design style, you need to do some homework. Most interior designers (including Evolve’s) will provide you with a design questionnaire at the outset of working together to help identify your design style so they can make sure any design they create for you is perfectly tailored to your tastes. If you’re not ready to hire a designer or you want to learn more about what you really gravitate toward style wise before you do, here are a few tips to narrow down your design style.
Do your research.
Browse through images of a variety of different design styles. What appeals to you about each of them? What do you gravitate toward? Pinterest is amazing for this. Pull up your Pinterest account and search for interior design and then pin everything that feels like “you” to a board. Then review your pins and pick out the common themes and see how they fit into the established design styles. Once you know your style, you can start shopping or better yet, have Evolve design for you within that style, and create a space that feels as though it is intentional, authentic, and most importantly, yours!
